Early on Day 3 the Raiders traded up to No. 100 overall. And with the selection, they picked Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook.
The Raiders gave up Nos. 114 and 154 to the Browns in the trade.

College career: Cook was a three-year starter for the Spartans during a run of quality play. He completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 9,194 yards in his college career, with 71 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. He was given the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, an honor bestowed upon the nation’s outstanding senior quarterback.
Scouting report: Cook was rated by many analysts as the No. 4 quarterback in this draft class, with a strong, accurate arm and an ability to make all the throws. His leadership was called into question several times over the course of his college career, and it was a hot topic during the pre-draft process. Many didn’t consider Cook a good teammate, and that may have impacted his slide into the fourth round.
Cook is a good athlete with NFL caliber talent, someone expected to go to Dallas with the No. 101 pick if the Raiders didn’t trade up to take him.
How he fits: Cook will compete with Matt McGloin to be Derek Carr’s back. The Raiders signed McGloin to a second-round restricted free agent tender this offseason in what many believe will be his last season as a Raider. Carr is the unquestioned starter in silver and black, and Cook can be developed in time to be a top backup or trade bait for a team in desperate need of a quarterback.
