How Brown expects Kings' offseason additions to impact team

The Sacramento Kings traded for Kevin Huerter in the offseason, and at his introductory press conference, the newly acquired King doesn’t see why this team can’t break the 16-season playoff drought.

The Kings didn't make any huge moves this offseason but still upgraded the roster by adding key role players in forward Kevin Huerter and guard Malik Monk.

In addition to drafting Keegan Murray with the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Sacramento added a few exciting pieces to a team with top-end talent in De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and potentially second-year guard Davion Mitchell.

Kings coach Mike Brown sat down for an exclusive, one-on-one interview with FOX 40's Sean Cunningham this week, where he discussed Sacramento's offseason additions and explained how the moves will impact the entire team on the court.

"I love it," Brown said. "I give Monte McNair and Wes Wilcox a lot of credit for going out and getting guys that have the ability to have a big impact on what we're doing going forward right away.

"One of the things everybody likes in this league is shooting and to add the type of shooting that we added in Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter has been fantastic so far and you couple that with the way that Harrison [Barnes] shoots and what Keegan [Murray's] showing so far and Terence Davis is working his tail off and now you're like okay we've got some guys that can put the ball in the hole and that's extremely important because it's going to give, in my opinion, the fastest guy -- or at least he's in the top-two of fastest guys from baseline to baseline with that basketball -- it's going to give De'Aaron [Fox] some room to space himself and create for others. So he'll help make the game easier for those guys like he'll help make the game easier for him."

Brown believes the Kings' new additions will help round out a roster that is capable of thriving in the structured, defensive-first system that he looks to establish in Sacramento.

"And then with [Domantas] Sabonis too, he's a play-maker and to have that type of shooting around him is going to be fantastic," Brown added. "I love the additions, they seem like the right fit people-wise, which everyone's continuing to look to upgrade their culture ... It's my job to put these guys in a system that makes sense for all of us and be able to make us effective on the defensive end of the floor and as long as these guys are willing to give effort, they're willing to communicate and they're willing to trust, we'll have a system in place that will help them defensively. So I'm excited about the additions that we've made."'

It wouldn't be the first time that the Kings were hopeful heading into a season, so expectations should be tempered as they look to end their 16-year playoff drought

Until Sacramento can prove that they are a winning team, Kings fans can still look forward to a more competitive product on the court this season.
