Source: Harkless, Kings agree to two-year, $9M contract

Kings guard Moe Harkless dunked in traffic in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Thunder. Teammate Tyrese Haliburton flexed on the bench to celebrate.

When the Kings added veteran Moe Harkless in a trade deadline deal with the Miami Heat, it flew under the radar.

A seasoned veteran with playoff experience, Harkless was lost on the end of Erik Spoelstra’s bench.

Harkless made an impact in his 26 game audition in Sacramento and earned a longer look. Now, the 28-year-old forward has agreed to a new two-year, $9 million contract with the Kings, a source confirmed to NBC Sports California.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report an agreement between Harkless and the Kings.

This is a solid early free agency move for Kings general manager Monte McNair. Harkless struggled with his 3-point shot in his time in Sacramento, but he started 20 games down the stretch and brings veteran leadership, defensive prowess and versatility to the roster.

In 26 games with the Kings, Harkless averaged 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 24.9 minutes per game. Whether he's starting or coming off the bench, he is a player that improves the Kings defense and if he can find his range, he can be a very solid rotational piece.
