According to the Sacramento Kings, Rudy Gay underwent successful surgery on his left Achilles tendon Monday morning and should be ready for training camp and the start of the 2017-18 NBA season.
"Rudy Gay underwent surgery on Monday, January 23, to repair his ruptured Achilles' tendon on his left leg at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York,” Dr. Martin O’Malley said via press release. “The surgery was successful and there are no complications or unexpected findings. He will be on crutches and in a boot for the next six weeks. He will start physical therapy in two weeks and formal rehabilitation at eight weeks post-surgery. It is anticipated that he will be able to participate in training camp and be ready to play at the start of next season."
Gay, 30, injured his Achilles late in the second quarter of the Kings’ loss to the Indiana Pacers last week. At the time of the injury, Gay was averaging 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

“Dr. O'Malley did an exceptional job and I am truly thankful for him and his team,” Gay said via the press release. “I am expected to make a full and complete recovery within the next few weeks and plan to resume on court activities by early summer. I am 100% committed to returning stronger than ever and will work extremely hard to get there.”
Gay is expected to miss the remainder of the season. He is under contract for next year with the Kings at $14.2 million, but he has a player option which allows him to become an unrestricted free agent.
Before the injury, Gay had informed Sacramento of his intentions to exercise that option, but the injury puts that decision in question.
