Despite being a starter on an NBA playoff team, Keegan Murray had to pay the price of being a rookie. Literally.
After the Kings’ magical 2022-23 season came to an end following a first-round exit, Murray described some of the duties he had to fulfill in his first year in the league.
“I really just picked up Chick-fil-A every away game, that was like $300 every single road trip so that kind of hurt,” Murray told reporters Monday. “Nah, but they’re cool with everything that I did, a bunch of little stuff I had to do, they’re good people.”

Sacramento’s 41 away games this season means the rookie spent around $12,300 solely on his poultry duties.
Murray played a huge part in Sacramento’s reborn success this season. He finished the season averaging 12.2 points on 45.3 percent from the field and 41.1 percent from 3-point range, adding 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 29.8 minutes.
After struggling in his first three NBA playoff games, Murray finished the final four games of the Kings’ series vs. the Golden State Warriors averaging 14.5 points on 51.1 shooting from the field and 45.8 from deep, adding eight rebounds and one assist in 35 minutes.

He also was named to the 2023 NBA Rising Stars showcase, broke the all-time 3-point record by a rookie and finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting.

None of that mattered when it came to his duties as a rookie, though.
That's all over now, and it's only a matter of time until Murray gets to hand over his Chick-fil-A rewards member account to someone else.
