It's a vibe: Kings have city buzzing after another statement win

There aren't many NBA teams having more fun than the Kings right now.

Winners of four straight, the spotlight shining on Sacramento got even brighter after the Kings' statement 153-121 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center.

Of course, not as bright as the beaming purple light that shoots up into the sky after every home victory.

Not only are the Kings winning, but they're doing so with a fanbase at their backs that is starved for any semblance of success. The team is doing well, the players are scrappy, quirky and beloved by the fanbase and there's an energy permeating throughout the team and city that is impossible to ignore.

In speaking to reporters after the game, Kings guard Kevin Huerter, who scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range on Tuesday night, discussed the atmosphere the Kings are looking to build and the overall vibe throughout the city.

"I think we're just trying to bring a good vibe to this city, bring a positive atmosphere to these games, trying to play free and tonight just happened to be in front of a national audience," Huerter said.

"It's fun. You keep winning and people want to come see you play. It's a national TV game, they're giving out towels, they're coming off a really big win, we've got good momentum here right now."

The Kings not only scored a Golden 1 Center-record 153 points and recorded a whopping 39 assists, but they did so with seven players scoring in double digits. Led by Terence Davis' 31 points, Sacramento got contributions from Huerter (19 points), Domantas Sabonis (17), Harrison Barnes (16), Malik Monk (15), De'Aaron Fox (14) and Trey Lyles (12).

In addition to the eye-popping offensive display, the Kings played well defensively (not counting Brooklyn's garbage time scoring) while coming away with nine steals and four blocks. For Fox, Tuesday night's win was a perfect storm of everything going Sacramento's way.

"It felt good, I felt like everybody was playing well," Fox explained. "I feel like we were doing well offensively, defensively, and sharing the ball. If there was a perfect game, it would have looked like tonight." (h/t ESPN 1320's James Ham)

Not only did the Kings make a statement with their decisive win over the Nets, but they did so on national television and sent a message to America that the Kings are for real.

"I think it was great," Fox said of the prime-time game. "Timeouts are long ... I think it was definitely great, we feel confident as a team that we can play with anybody and it was great to show that on a national stage."

"It's electric. Whenever you're winning in this city, it's a very different feeling. For us, we want to continue to put on a show, continue to win -- not only for ourselves but for this fanbase."

Riding high on a four-game winning streak, the Kings will face off against two lowly teams in the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons, on Thursday and Sunday before facing another tough test in the Memphis Grizzlies next Tuesday.

So far, the 2022-23 Kings are passing the vibe check, and Sacramento might just be ready to explode.
