Why Rodón says All-Star break came at ‘bad time' for Giants

The MLB All-Star break is here, which means all teams get to take a few extra days off at the halfway point of the season

For most teams and players, it’s a time to relax and recharge for the second half of the season until the October chaos.

And while Carlos Rodón can appreciate the time off, the Giants pitcher says the timing is inconvenient.

After a forgettable skid, the Giants have managed to flip the script as they've won seven of their last nine games. The momentum was with San Francisco, and then the break hit.

"I thought the way we finished out this first half of playing a good Milwaukee [Brewers] team, it was a good series, pretty close games all the games," Rodón said. "I thought the last two weeks, we showed a lot of grit and came back in games we probably had no business winning. We just dug deep and won some games that we needed."

"Unfortunately, the All-Star break kind of came at a bad time for us I would say, because I would’ve liked to keep playing and just rattling up wins, but, you know, we needed this little break and we’ll start to get going on Thursday."

The Giants will surely hope the momentum stays with them as they will face their red-hot rival and NL West-dominating Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday for a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.

It always feels nice to beat their longtime foes, but a series win in Los Angeles would taste even sweeter for the Giants at this point of their season.

"Obviously we need to win, that’s a no-brainer," Rodón said. "But to take two of them from [Dodger Stadium] would be really nice."

Rodón was named an NL All-Star earlier this week to replace Brewers closer, Josh Hader. But he was then replaced by Dodgers starter, and former Giant Tyler Anderson, due to a blister and split fingernail on his pitching hand.

But even though Rodón won't be on the mound for the All-Star Game, the Giants don't expect his injuries to prevent him from starting one of the first two games vs. the Dodgers later this week.

And it's evident that Rodón can't wait to step back on the field and compete.
