Source: All Giants in SD have tested negative for virus

The Giants-Padres series was postponed following a Giants player testing positive for coronavirus. Alex Pavlovic explains how the Giants took proper precaution even though a player has come down with the virus.

The Giants spent all day Saturday self-isolating at their hotel in downtown San Diego, waiting and hoping for good news. Already, they have gotten encouraging test results.

The player who tested positive for COVID-19 before Friday night's scheduled game against the San Diego Padres has since tested negative, along with everyone else in the traveling party, NBC Sports Bay Area has learned, but the Giants are awaiting additional results.

As of Saturday afternoon, neither the Giants nor MLB had given updates on the status of Sunday's game, which still has not been postponed. MLB postponed the middle two games of this four-game series upon the news Friday that a Giant had tested positive.

The Giants put out a statement Saturday saying players and staff members have been instructed "to self-isolate in their San Diego hotel rooms with recommended safety precautions in place."

"The team conducted contact tracing and is continuing testing of the entire traveling party," the statement said. "The Giants organization and Major League Baseball will continue to provide updates as available."

The Giants are off Monday and are scheduled to play in Seattle on Tuesday and Wednesday. Any additional postponements would start to cause scheduling issues. After Sunday, there are just two weeks remaining in the regular season, although the Giants do host the Padres the final weekend and could make up some games then, with the Padres potentially serving as the home team at Oracle Park.
