PHOENIX -- At around 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi told reporters that he expected some of the best free agents on the market to sign before camps open Sunday.
Zaidi quickly proved himself correct.
The Giants pounced on the best starter available, signing lefty Carlos Rodón to a two-year, $44 million deal, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Rodón gives them a strong option alongside Logan Webb at the top of the rotation. When the contact is signed, it will be the biggest for a free agent since Zaidi took over in 2018.

Rodón is a former No. 3 overall pick who was a first time All-Star last year. He posted a 2.37 ERA and averaged 12.6 K/9, finishing fifth in the AL Cy Young voting.
Rodón’s addition fills out the rotation. The Giants had previously re-signed Anthony DeSclafani and Alex Wood and added Alex Cobb.
