Webb solidifies candidacy for All-Star Game in win over Reds

Manager Gabe Kapler believes pitcher Logan Webb will be considered for the All-Star Game if he keeps putting up strong outings, like he did against the Reds Saturday. Webb struck out six and did not allow an earned run.

With the way that Logan Webb is pitching, he would be wise to keep his schedule clear during the upcoming MLB All-Star break from July 18-20.

In Saturday's 9-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Oracle Park, Webb (6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) strung together his third consecutive start of at least six innings pitched while allowing one earned run or fewer, whittling his ERA down to 3.04 in the process.

Not only is he tied for the third-most wins (7) in the league, but Webb also has thrown the sixth-most innings (91 2/3) in all of baseball.

Saturday's outing was another stellar start, and his teammates were impressed.

"It was an incredible job," Thairo Estrada told reporters postgame. "He executed to perfection, put every pitch where he wanted to and also happy that we as an offense were able to back him up and help with the victory."

When Giants manager Gabe Kapler was asked about Webb's candidacy for a spot in the All-Star Game, he didn't hesitate to lump his young ace together with starting pitcher Carlos Rodón and outfielder Joc Pederson as the three Giants most deserving.

"I do and it's interesting because we talked about this several days back and we talked about Carlos a little bit, very deserving and of course Joc," Kapler said. "But if Logan keeps pitching like this, it's going to be hard to deny him as well. So, very deserving of consideration as well."

How does Webb feel about his chances? Well, he certainly would be honored, but also still would find a way to enjoy his time off if he wasn't selected.

"Whatever happens happens. Obviously, it would be an honor, but we'll see. I wouldn't mind three days in Lake Tahoe or something either," Webb joked.

As even-keeled as he comes across, Webb certainly is hoping that he will be spending the middle of July in Southern California.

And that's certainly no knock on Lake Tahoe. For the 25-year-old, nothing could beat his first All-Star appearance.
