Bryant homers twice in Giants' win over travel-weary Mets

Clinging to a one-run lead, the Giants got some breathing room thanks to back-to-back solo homers from Brandon Belt and Kris Bryant.

Kris Bryant hadn't homered since his first game with the Giants, more than two weeks ago, but he changed that in a big way Monday night in San Francisco's 7-5 win over the New York Mets at Oracle Park.

Bryant crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning, and then two innings later, he went back-to-back with Brandon Belt to give the Giants a pair of insurance runs.

After hitting 18 homers with the Chicago Cubs, Bryant now has three with the Giants.

Bryant now has 14 career two-homer games, and this was his third two-homer game of the 2021 season.

The 29-year-old impending free agent entered the day hitting .288/351/.442 in 14 games with the Giants. While Bryant has been hitting well, the power numbers hadn't made their way from Chicago to San Francisco prior to Monday night.

The Giants are hoping Bryant's two-homer game is the beginning of big things for the former National League MVP. The Giants don't need him to carry the lineup, but he has the ability to do so.

The Giants improved to 77-42 with the win and preserved their four-game NL West lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.
