Duggar exits Giants game vs. Mets with apparent oblique injury

NEW YORK -- With just about all right-handed pitching on the other side thus far, Steven Duggar has been the everyday center fielder for Gabe Kapler and the Giants. That run might have ended in the second inning Thursday.

Duggar grimaced and grabbed at his left side while fouling a ball off with a couple of runners on and no outs. He immediately walked out of the batter's box, and after a short conversation with trainer Dave Groeschner, Duggar came out of the game. It appeared Duggar hurt his left oblique.

The plate appearance got worse for Duggar as he walked back to the clubhouse with Groeschner. Mauricio Dubon took over with a 1-2 count and appeared not to know there were two strikes. Dubon tried to put a bunt down and was called out, with the strikeout officially going on Duggar's line.

If Duggar ends up missing time, the Giants would have a couple of options for the roster spot. Outfielders Heliot Ramos and Jaylin Davis are on the 40-man roster, and with a left-handed starter -- Patrick Corbin -- going for the Washington Nationals on Friday, it's possible the Giants give Ramos another shot. Recently-optioned utility man Luke Williams would be another option.

The Giants failed to score after the strikeout. Curt Casali flew out and Mike Yastrzemski grounded out to end the inning. Dubon took over in center for the bottom of the second.
