SAN FRANCISCO — Carlos Rodón grabbed his glove at 3:30 p.m. and walked out to the field to play catch. In a bit of a surprise, the hat on his head was still orange and black.
The Giants traded four veterans before Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline but held their biggest trade chip, Rodón, as well as outfielder Joc Pederson. Catcher Curt Casali, left fielder/first baseman Darin Ruf and lefty Matt Boyd departed, with rehabbing reliever Trevor Rosenthal also getting sent out just 12 days after the Giants signed him.
Rodón said he was ready for anything and would have understood if the Giants dealt him for prospects, but he’s happy to be playing out the season with the Giants.

SIGN UP HERE “Alright, it’s over, which is good. We don’t have to be anxious,” he said of the deadline. “(Now) let’s try to freaking win. That’s my thought. We’re here, might as well do it. We’re not showing up for no reason.”

Losers of nine of 12 since the break, the Giants took plenty of calls on Rodón and there was interest in Pederson and Wilmer Flores as well. But they held their big pieces and now will take a run at the third Wild Card spot. They’re currently 4 1/2 games back.
