The Giants will call up veteran catcher Stephen Vogt from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, the Associated Press' Janie McCauley reported Tuesday evening.

Early Wednesday afternoon, the Giants made the news official. In a corresponding move, Ty Blach has been sent back down to Triple-A Sacramento.

Vogt, 34, is slashing .241/.389/.500 with four home runs and seven RBI with the River Cats this season. The catcher signed a minor-league contract with the Giants ahead of spring training, but did not make the big league roster ahead of Opening Day. He was working his way back from shoulder surgery that cost him the entirety of his 2018 season, and did not catch for the Giants until mid-March.

Vogt spent six big league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland A's and Milwaukee Brewers. He played parts of five seasons across the Bay with the A's, making the MLB All-Star Game in 2015 and 2016. The Brewers claimed the A's fan favorite off waivers in June 2017, and last played in a major league game on Sept. 30 that year.

Giants starting catcher Buster Posey left San Francisco's 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday at the top of the seventh inning. Posey, like Vogt, had his 2018 season end early due to surgery. The six-time All-Star underwent season-ending hip surgery, and has played in all but three of the Giants' 29 games this season. Posey's backup, 38-year-old Erik Kratz, has slashed .133/.235/.300 in 13 games.
