SAN FRANCISCO -- The historic slump is over.
For the first time this season, the Giants scored a run in the first inning. Tyler Austin hit a one-out double off Yankees lefty James Paxton, went to third on Brandon Belt's double and jogged home when Buster Posey hit a sac fly to deep right.
The Giants had gone 25 consecutive games to start the season without scoring their first time up, a National League record. They came three games shy of tying the MLB record set by the 1948 White Sox. The lineup entered the night with just seven hits in 79 first-inning at-bats and the team had been outscored 18-0 in the first after Madison Bumgarner gave up a pair earlier Friday night.

The streak got so bad that even Cameron Maybin, a Giant most of the spring, drove in a run in the first inning of a Giants game before the team did. He had an RBI single off Bumgarner in his first at-bat for the Yankees.

Manager Bruce Bochy changed the top of his lineup to try and jumpstart things, moving Kevin Pillar to the leadoff spot and Steven Duggar down to the No. 9 spot. Pillar didn't reach, but the guys behind him put together a rally.
After Posey's RBI, Evan Longoria drew a walk, but Yangervis Solarte grounded out to short to end the inning.
