Giants manager Gabe Kapler took responsibility for pitcher Jake McGee not being able to enter the game against the Reds due to McGee not being on the lineup card.
The Giants capped off an incredibly strange day with one of the oddest moments you will see in a baseball game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning of the Giants' 5-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night at Great American Ball Park, manager Gabe Kapler called on Jake McGee, who came off the Injured List earlier in the day, to pitch in a two-run game.
There was one big problem with this plan.

SIGN UP HERE Somehow, McGee's name was omitted from the lineup card the Giants exchanged with the Reds and the umpires prior to the game that was delayed more than two hours by rain.
After the loss, Kapler took the blame for the mistake.
"We have an extremely detailed and meticulous group," Kapler told reporters in Cincinnati. "We failed to get McGee on the lineup card. And ultimately, that's my responsibility. So Jake was unable to pitch because he wasn't on the lineup card. Subsequently, I had to bring [Jose] Alvarez into the game."
When pressed if this falls on the bench coach, Kapler wouldn't throw Kai Correa under the bus.
"No. Everything we do around here ... we do this together," Kapler said. "This is a team effort. Our entire staff is incredibly detailed and pays very close attention. There's a lot going on today. We just f---ed it up."
Alvarez ended up coming into the game and gave up two runs.
The day got off to a weird start for the Giants when Joc Pederson got into a pregame altercation with Reds outfielder Tommy Pham. It was later reported, and then confirmed by Pederson, that Pham slapped the Giants' outfielder over something that happened in their fantasy football league last year. Yes, that really happened.

Then the game was delayed by rain for so long that the Reds had to move their postgame fireworks show to before the game because of local noise ordinances.

Then the McGee mix-up happened followed by a loss to the team with the worst record in all of baseball.
Simply a day to forget for the Giants.
