If you live in San Francisco, you might have had a hard time on Tuesday understanding how the Giants could be flying back home to play a road series at Oracle Park because that's where they could find the best air quality. It's been hazy in the city -- and sometimes much worse -- for weeks, but up in Seattle, the conditions are much worse.
Seattle's Air Quality Index was well above 200 the last couple of days, causing a postponement of two games between the Giants and Mariners, who instead will play them at Oracle Park. The teams had a two-game series last week, as well, and the conversation during that one was again dominated by the fires.
The second game was played last Wednesday, which is when the Bay Area woke up to darkness and an orange sky that didn't go away until the next morning. The Giants and Mariners played in a surreal setting, but a week later, the skies have fully cleared.
The AQI at Oracle Park on Wednesday morning was 22, which is considered good.
Here's a look at how much has changed, with unfiltered images taken in the same spots. The "before" photos were taken last Wednesday, Sept. 9 around noon. The "after" photos were taken Tuesday, Sept. 15 around sunset.
