Buster Posey has a positive outlook on the Giants' upcoming 2023 MLB season despite the team having what most fans would consider a disappointing offseason.
Ahead of Friday's round at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the former Giants catcher spoke to NBC Bay Area's Anthony Flores about what he expects from the team this season.
"I think it's going to be a good team this year, hopefully a team that's ready to hopefully set their sights on the division and get in the playoffs," Posey told Flores. "And we know when you get in the playoffs, anything can happen."
Posey, who retired in Nov. 2021 after 12 MLB seasons with the Giants, bought a stake in the franchise last September, becoming the youngest member of the ownership group at 35 years old.
The Giants took a few massive swings this offseason, first trying unsuccessfully to lure Aaron Judge away from the New York Yankees. Then, when San Francisco thought they had added the next face of the franchise in Carlos Correa, the agreement broke down over concerns about a right ankle injury he suffered in 2014.
While Judge and Correa didn't end up in the Bay Area, the Giants made roster upgrades, signing outfielders Mitch Haniger and Michael Conforto, starting pitchers Sean Manaea and Ross Stripling, and relievers Taylor Rogers and Luke Jackson. Joc Pederson also is back after accepting the qualifying offer from San Francisco.

After winning a franchise-record 107 games in Posey's final season, the 2022 Giants regressed and finished 81-81, good for a third-place finish in the NL West, 30 games behind the division-winning Los Angeles Dodgers.
In the NL wild-card race, the Giants finished six games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the final playoff spot.

Posey and the Giants hope their moves over the winter are enough to make a 10-game jump in the win-column, giving them a better shot of making the playoffs.
