A's set Coliseum attendance record in front of 2018's biggest MLB crowd

Opening up Mount Davis at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum paid off. The Oakland A's set a baseball attendance record on Saturday, and played in front of a crowd of 56,310 fans agains the San Francisco Giants, the team announced.

That's not only the largest crowd to watch a baseball game in the Coliseum's five-decade history, but the biggest to watch an MLB game in 2018. Last month, 53,904 fans attended a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium on June 26.

The previous record at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum was set nearly 15 years ago against the Giants. 55,989 fans watched Oakland's walk-off win against San Francisco on June 26, 2004.

Removing the tarps from Mount Davis freed up nearly 8200 additional seats, and brought the Coliseum's capacity to 56,782. On Saturday, the A's opened up Mount Davis for the first time in 13 years.
