A’s right-hander Frankie Montas suspended 80 games for PED violation

The Athletics received some bad news Friday.

Major League Baseball announced that right-hander Frankie Montas has been suspended 80 games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Statement regarding Frankie Montas suspension:

The A’s were disappointed upon learning of this suspension. We fully support MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and we will welcome Frankie back after the discipline has been served.

MLB has announced the 80-game suspension of Oakland right-hander Frankie Montas. While sources said he made a compelling argument the banned substance he took was not to enhance pitching performance, Montas accepted the suspension without appealing it.

Montas was in the midst of breakout season for the A's. The 26-year-old was 9-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 15 starts.
