Jesús Luzardo leads MLB.com list of Top 30 prospects in A's organization

Spring training has sprung which means fans get the rare opportunity to see most of the players work together at the same time.

Yay!

MLB.com recently released its list of top 30 prospects for each team. When it came to the A's, there weren't too many surprises, but it goes without saying, many are excited to see what Jesus Luzardo brings to the table this season.

He leads the list off.

LHP, Jesús Luzardo

The 21-year-old is also the No. 1 prospect on the left-handed pitcher list, and No. 12 on the top overall prospect list.

Athletics option Estes to Triple-A after rough start to 2025

Wilson's big hits spark Athletics' extra-inning win vs. Rockies

Not bad, not bad at all.

But that's what you get when you take a quick journey through the minors -- and I mean quick. Last year, he started out in the California League and ended up pitching for the Triple-A affiliate.

He also improved.

His velocity rose and his secondary pitches are just gorgeous. And the fact he's a groundball pitcher doesn't hurt either.

Luzardo should be a part of the A's big league rotation very soon.

LHP, A.J. Puk

Following Luzardo, at the No. 2 spot is 23-year-old A.J. Puk, with his 6-foot-7 frame.

He's coming back from Tommy John surgery he had last April, which is the difficult part. His ETA to coming to the bigs is still unsure. This has to do with experience, yes, but that surgery is a big part of it as well.

Pipeline told NBC Sports Bay Area last month they were being conservative with him playing in the bigs in 2020, but there is also a "huge possibility" he could return as early as midseason in 2019.

He's also a top pitcher on the southpaw list.

C, Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy is in a unique position. Maybe not as unique as he could have been earlier with the A's recent acquisition of Nick Hundley, but even with Josh Phegley and Chris Herrmann platooning behind the plate, Murphy is not being forgotten about.

Especially with how skilled he is defensively. Pipeline said this alone will make him on the fast track to the bigs.

The No. 3 prospect in the organization spent most of the 2018 season with the Double-A affiliate in Midland, Texas where he boasted a .288/.358/.498 line with eight long balls and 43 RBI.

Austin Beck, Jameson Hannah, and Jorge Mateo also make the list.
