Brewers' Corbin Burnes sets MLB record for most K's without a walk

Milwaukee Brewers' pitcher Corbin Burnes broke an all-time record on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Burnes set the record for the most strikeouts without a walk in any stretch of any season since 1893. He entered Thursday's game against the Cardinals with 49 straight strikeouts since his last walk, and tallied 9 K's before walking a batter (his first of the season) to break the league record at 58 straight.

New York Yankees' pitcher Gerrit Cole pitched eight shutout innings, striking out 12 batters, against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday to extend his active strikeout streak to 56.

Cole's 56-straight strikeouts since his last walk ties him with Arizona Diamondbacks' Curt Schilling for second place on the list. Schilling threw for 56 straight K's without a walk in 2002, and Atlanta Braves' Greg Maddux threw for 53 straight in 2001.

Cole's next start for the Yankees is slated to be Monday, May 17, against the Texas Rangers, so we will we be on the edge of our seats to see if Burnes will be the record holder for more than a few days.
