In the top of the seventh inning of the A’s 4-2 win over the Houston Astros in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, Oakland manager Bob Melvin was thrilled a replay review finally went the A’s way.
That hasn’t been the case lately.
“What’s more important? Winning the game, or winning a challenge? So, we’ll take it. Obviously, I’m kidding,” Melvin said in between games.

SIGN UP HERE The play in question was when shortstop Marcus Semien hit a grounder to third with runners on the corners and no outs. Tony Kemp was forced at second base, and it originally called that Semien was out at first as well for a double play. However, replay overturned the call, and Semien was ruled safe at first after the challenge.

The play ended up being inconsequential, as the A’s didn’t score in the inning.
On Monday following the A’s 6-0 win over the Astros, Melvin told reporters he was surprised none of the no one asked him about yet another blown replay review call that didn’t work in the team’s favor.
