After dropping both of their Saturday doubleheader games against the Astros, the A’s received news later that night that a member of their traveling party tested positive for the coronavirus. GM David Forst speaks up.
Bob Melvin wants to make one thing clear: Oakland's manager says no A's players or staff members broke MLB's coronavirus protocols when a member of the A's traveling party tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
"Something I want to emphasize is nobody broke protocol,” Melvin said to reporters Wednesday, via the San Francisco Chronicle's Matt Kawahara. “And we’ve had no positives since, which means we’re doing the right things. ... This was kind of a hit for us.
"But no one went out and did something that broke what the CDC or MLB considered protocol."

The A's road game against the Houston Astros was postponed Sunday as a result of the positive test. That game is being made-up on Sept. 8 in Oakland with a doubleheader.
The A's are yet to announce if a player or staff member was the one who tested positive. Since that positive test came back late Saturday night, they have not received any further positive tests. Melvin also didn't clarify how many people from the A’s traveling party remained in Houston when the team flew back to Oakland on Tuesday.

After multiple postponements from the coronavirus and also boycotting games in Houston as a protest against racial injustices and police brutality, the A's are in for a grueling upcoming schedule. Starting Sept. 8, they will play 10 games over a seven-day stretch. That includes three doubleheaders in three different cities.
