Brock Purdy’s ability to play poised under center impressed 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan following San Francisco’s 21-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night at Lumen Field.
Despite being a rookie quarterback, Shanahan noted that the 22-year-old handled the pressure Seattle’s defense threw at him while also playing with oblique and rib injuries.

On top of that, it was Purdy’s first NFL start on the road, and playing in an environment that’s one of the loudest in the NFL wasn’t lost in Shanahan's eyes after having an opportunity to review the game film.
“I mean he was great in all aspects of it, made really good decisions,” Shanahan told reporters on Friday. “He really only had one bad one, which was a pretty good play by [Seattle Seahawks S Quandre] Diggs coming from the backside. I was so impressed with how he managed it in that noise.
“That was his first time in that situation with all our motions and stuff and having to do the silent count and things like that, getting in and out of the huddle. I think we only had to use one timeout throughout the whole game, and he did a really impressive job.”
The former Iowa State quarterback had the composure to elevate his game against the Seahawks while playing through an injury and navigating the team on the field through raucous crowd noise, which was later applauded by his head coach.

“I knew he struggled to move a little bit at times, but there at the end for that third-and-1, for him to be able to run and move the chains there. They had a lot of respect for him before that game, but a lot more now,” Shanahan told reporters Thursday after the win.
