Joe Staley joined the 49ers Talk podcast to give his honest take on Jimmy Garoppolo’s performance through three games, while also advocating for the team to call some plays for Trey Lance outside of the red zone.
Has the Trey Lance era officially begun in Santa Clara?
When the 49ers came out of the locker room after halftime Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance warmed up with center Alex Mack as Jimmy Garoppolo looked on without a helmet. The 49ers announced that Garoppolo sustained a calf injury and was questionable to return, meaning the second half would be Lance's show.
The 49ers got the ball to start the second half and opened with a 15-yard run by Trey Sermon for a first down. However, three more runs yielded just 7 yards and the 49ers were forced to punt. Lance ran for 1 yard on his first drive and did not attempt a pass.
