Injuries to Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk have left the 49ers thin at wide receiver, but the team agreed to a one-year contract with eight-year NFL veteran Mohamed Sanu on Tuesday.
The moment Mohamed Sanu was released by the New England Patriots on Sept. 2, he had his eyes on one team: The 49ers.
Deebo Samuel couldn't be happier that Sanu's wish came true when the 49ers signed the veteran receiver Tuesday. Samuel shared Tuesday on his Instagram story that Sanu called him soon after being released and the two receivers talked about teaming up in Santa Clara.

Sanu and Samuel now are teammates, but aren't sharing the field quite yet. Samuel was placed on injured reserve ahead of the 49ers' season-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He also suffered a setback to his fractured foot, and the earliest he can return is Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
But Sanu should be a big help to Samuel on and off the field. He's a veteran receiver entering his ninth season as a pro. Sanu also knows coach Kyle Shanahan's offense, as he played in it back in 2016 when Shanahan was the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator.

On the field, Sanu should be able to help the 49ers right away. He's a versatile weapon like Samuel, and San Francisco continues to be depleted on offense. Tight end George Kittle won't practice this week after spraining his knee against the Cardinals, receiver Richie James was held out of Wednesday's practice and receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains limited with a hamstring injury.
