Baker Mayfield unaware of Nick Bosa's trolling in 49ers' blowout win

The last time Nick Bosa lined up across from Baker Mayfield, the electric quarterback had his way. Monday night was a different story.

In 2017, Mayfield's Oklahoma Sooners traveled to Columbus, Ohio to face Bosa and the Ohio State Buckeyes in one of the marquee games of the college football season. Mayfield silenced the crowd at "The Shoe" that night, throwing for 386 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 31-16 win. In typical Mayfield fashion, he planted the Oklahoma flag at midfield.

Two years later, Bosa got his revenge.

The 49ers star rookie notched four solo tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and forced and recovered a fumble in the 49ers' 31-3 beatdown over the Browns at Levi's Stadium. The former Buckeye trolled Mayfield after he pressured the quarterback into an intentional grounding penalty late in the first half, mimicking the flag celebration after driving Mayfield to the turf.

After the game, Mayfield could only tip his cap to Bosa.

"I didn't know that until I was informed before I got up here," Mayfield said when asked about the flag-planting celebration. "Good for him. Good play."

There's not much more you can say after getting embarrassed on national television.

Bosa, however, had plenty more to say about Mayfield after the win and even doubled down on the flag-planting celly, waving a 49ers flag around before sticking it into the Levi's Stadium turf.

The 49ers now are 4-0 for the first time since 1990 and history says that a trip to the NFC Championship Game very well could be in the cards.

A key date with the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams awaits Bosa and the Niners in Week 6. If they pass that test, any doubters remaining will almost certainly be silenced.
