Awkward: New 49er Ebukam changes Twitter header of Mullens sack

Well, that was awkward.

The 49ers reportedly signed outside linebacker Samson Ebukam to a two-year, $12 million contract Monday, adding a versatile option to strengthen their defensive line.

One of his first orders of business? Changing his Twitter header before the deal becomes official.

Ebukam's header previously was a photo of him sacking none other than 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens.

Minus the obvious unfortunate coincidence for Mullens, Ebukam's reputation on the defensive line is great news for the 49ers. Last season, San Francisco recorded just 30 sacks. Ebukam, however, posted 31 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2020 for the Los Angeles Rams, and he has recorded 14 sacks through his four-year NFL career.

Ebukam adds durability and reliability to the 49ers' defense, as the edge rusher has not missed a regular-season game in his career. With Nick Bosa set to return in 2021 after missing the majority of the 2020 season due to an ACL tear, and Javon Kinlaw and Arik Armstead assumed to be starters as well, Ebukam should solidly round out the front four of the defensive line.

The soonest Ebukam can sign with the 49ers is Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT, when the NFL free agency signing period officially begins. Thankfully for him, there shouldn't be any awkwardness when he does sign, now that his header is changed.
