49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo makes positive impression on Trent Williams

Left tackle Trent Williams knew about the quarterback he would be joining when he was traded to the 49ers in April.

After all, he just had to watch a little film to learn a lot about Jimmy Garoppolo.

But since getting to know him a little through the offseason and early days of training camp, Williams is even more impressed.

“I think the player he is is well-documented, but as a person, I think he is the most down-to-earth guy you’ll meet,” Williams said Thursday on a video conference with Bay Area reporters.

Williams also may not be alone, as he seemed to admit that he has also been struck by Garoppolo’s charisma and charm.

“He’s probably the hottest thing walking around this Bay Area,” Williams quipped. “He is a very laid-back, very welcoming guy. I can’t wait to get started.

The 49ers acquired Williams, a seven-time Pro Bowl player with Washington, to take over at left tackle to replace All-Decade player Joe Staley after his retirement.
