Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon will not be available for the 49ers on Sunday against the New York Giants, so the club will have to dip deeper into their reserves.
Witherspoon started last week in place of Richard Sherman, who is out at least three games with a calf injury. Witherspoon was announced as one of the team's inactive players for Sunday's game due to a hamstring injury.
Now, the 49ers must determine which cornerback will start in his place: Jason Verrett or Dontae Johnson.

Verrett missed the first two games of the season while recovering from a hamstring injury toward the end of training camp.
Newly added cornerback Ken Webster is the only other cornerback on the 49ers' roster.
On Friday, the 49ers announced the following players were out for the game due to injuries:
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), tight end George Kittle (knee), running backs Raheem Mostert (knee) and Tevin Coleman (knee), defensive end Dee Ford (back), and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps).

The 49ers have been decimated with injuries this season, but some of their players are scheduled to come back soon. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is expected to return to practice this week, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said.
It is uncertain whether Samuel will play in Week 4 when the 49ers return to Levi's Stadium to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Quarterback Nick Mullens will make his first start since the end of the 2018 season with Garoppolo being out with a high ankle sprain he sustained in the 49ers' 31-13 win over the New York Jets last week.
Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are likely to take over as the team's top two running backs. Jordan Reed and Ross Dwelley will see a lot of action in place of Kittle.

Defensively, Kerry Hyder and newly added edge rushers Ziggy Ansah and Dion Jordan will take over for the losses of Bosa and Ford. The 49ers signed Ansah to a one-year contract last week and promoted Jordan from the practice squad.
The 49ers on Saturday activated veteran linebacker Joe Walker on Saturday. Azeez Al-Shaair and Mark Nzeocha will see action at linebacker with Greelaw out of action.
