SANTA CLARA -- Linebacker Reuben Foster, who sat out the 49ers’ two games before the bye week, is questionable to return to action Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Foster will work out before Sunday’s game to determine his availability, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. Foster missed the two games prior to the bye week with a hamstring strain.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Pierre Garçon (knee) and backup guard Joshua Garnett (thumb) were ruled out Friday.

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne likely will make his third start in the past four games in place of Garçon. The 49ers also expect rookie receiver Dante Pettis to be more productive during the final stretch of the season.
Shanahan said he wants to see everyone help pick up the slack, including veteran starter Marquise Goodwin on the other side.

“We need to those guys to step up,” Shanahan said. “Not just the receivers, but same thing with our tight ends and our backs out of the backfield. They need to help us out in the pass game, and if they do that and we can stay balanced in the run game, that’s how you avoid turnovers and take the pressure off everyone and have your best chance to score.”
