Jets LB B.J. Goodson is retiring from the NFL after six years.
The Jets placed Goodson on the reserve/retired list to get an extra roster spot in his absence. He spent the first three years of his career with the Giants before spending a year in Green Bay and then another with the Browns. Goodson, just 28 years old, signed a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Jets just after their opener. He only saw seven special teams snaps in Week 2. He ends his career with 251 combined tackles and four interceptions.

Jets signed LB B.J. Goodson to a one-year, $2.1 million contract.
Goodson set career-highs in most categories across 14 starts last year, registering 91 tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery in Cleveland. His 43 career starts are considered veteran experience and depth for an otherwise thin front-seven.

Free agent LB B.J. Goodson visited the Titans.
Goodson set career highs in 14 starts last year, posting 91 tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. The Browns let him walk in the offseason, leaving Goodson searching for his third team in as many seasons. Goodson is likely going to have to settle for another one-year deal wherever he lands.

  • FA Linebacker #48
Browns signed LB B.J. Goodson, formerly of the Packers, to a one-year contract.
Acquired from the Giants last September, Goodson played just 305 snaps for Green Bay. He could be an option to help replace Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert in Cleveland but the Browns should realistically set their sights higher.
  • FA Linebacker #48
Packers acquired LB B.J. Goodson from the Giants.
The teams will conduct a seventh-round pick swap in 2020. The Giants had planned to waive Goodson but instead found a willing trade partner in Green Bay. He gives the Packers some much-needed linebacker depth in the absence of Orem Burks, who is still recovering from a torn pectoral muscle he suffered earlier this summer.
  • FA Linebacker #48
    Giants waived LB B.J. Goodson.
The Giants are throwing in the towel on the fourth-year linebacker, who the team deemed a redundancy with Alec Ogletree already in tow. Goodson did some nice things last season, compiling 61 tackles, two picks and one forced fumble over 489 defensive snaps. Though there wasn’t any room for him in East Rutherford, the 26-year-old Clemson alum should be able to find a starting gig elsewhere. We expect him to draw significant waiver interest.

Giants signed fourth-round OLB B.J. Goodson to a four-year contract.
Goodson wasn’t a full-time starter until his fifth-year senior season at Georgia, but has good athleticism for his size (6-foot-1, 242 pounds). Goodson is primarily a run defender, but could develop into more. His biggest rookie impact should come on special teams.

NJ Advance Media’s Dan Duggan reports the Giants believe 2016 fourth-rounder B.J. Goodson can take over middle linebacker duties next season.
Kelvin Sheppard was the Giants’ MIKE this season, playing 451 snaps, but graded out as Pro Football Focus’ fourth-worst inside linebacker out of 59 qualifiers. He was particularly bad against the run and will be a free agent. The Giants’ main goal on defense should be to upgrade their linebacker play. Goodson played just 13 snaps as a rookie but is viewed as a solid run defender.

Giants LB B.J. Goodson wants to be an “every-down force” this season.
A fourth-round pick last year, Goodson played just 13 snaps on defense as a rookie, but he is expected to take over the middle linebacker job this year. “The expectations are high and they are looking forward to me taking that role,” Goodson said. “I’m looking forward to being an every-down force.” The Giants had one of the best defenses in the league last season, but they still need to get more from the linebacker position. Perhaps Goodson can be the answer.

B.J. Goodson worked as the starting middle linebacker during Giants OTAs.
A fourth-round pick last year, Goodson played just 13 defensive snaps as a rookie, but he will be given every chance to win the middle linebacker job this summer. He is apparently off to a good start, as well, with ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reporting he “looked fast and free” during practice. Linebacker remains a concern for New York, but Goodson can help by seizing the starting job.
