Aziaha James impressed with 10 points (3-of-8 FGs, ZZ-of-ZZ FTs), one rebound, three assists, one steal and two three-pointers in 16 minutes in the Wings’ preseason loss to the Aces on Friday.
James got off to a quick start in her first game as a professional. The No. 12 pick of the 2025 Draft came off the bench and erupted for 10 first-half points, which is when all of her scoring production came. James thrived as a scorer at NC State and led them in scoring during the 2024-25 season. She’ll have an opportunity to compete for rotation minutes in her rookie season with Dallas.
  • The Wings selected Madison Scott with the No. 14 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft
Scott spent five seasons at Ole Miss, earning SEC Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and being a three-time All-SEC honoree. In helping lead the Rebels to the Sweet 16, the 6-foot-1 forward averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals in 29.4 minutes, shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 73.7 percent from the foul line. Scott is an athletic wing who defends well on the perimeter, and her playmaking ability improved throughout her time in college. She joins a Wings squad that’s going through a rebuild, with veteran scorer Arike Ogunbowale leading the way. Scott is one of three players selected by the Wings in the first 14 picks, including Paige Bueckers and Aziaha James.
  • The Wings selected Aziaha James with the No. 12 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
A two-time All-ACC selection who helped lead the Wolfpack to the program’s first Final Four during the 2023-24 season, James averaged a career-best 17.9 points per game as a senior. In 35 games, the 5-foot-9 guard also contributed 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.2 three-pointers in 31.1 minutes, shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line. In addition to being a first-team All-ACC selection for the second straight season, James was an honorable mention All-American this season. James joins a backcourt rotation with veteran Arike Ogunbowale and first overall pick Paige Bueckers. James’ improvement as a scorer throughout her college career bodes well for her WNBA prospects, especially when sharing the floor with prolific scorers who will demand a lot of defensive attention.
