Free agent Austin Seferian-Jenkins was arrested for DUI last week.
Seferian-Jenkins was also arrested for DUI in 2016 with the Bucs. He spent last year out of the league after failing to make it to training camp with the Patriots. Seferian-Jenkins will likely be facing a suspension if he gets another NFL chance.
  • Patriots released TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Per Rapsheet, ASJ is “taking a step away for a month for personal issues.” ASJ has a history of substance-abuse issues. On the football field, ASJ had made a successful comeback over the past two seasons, though he offered scant play-making ability in the process. Still only 26, ASJ could make another return in a league that is finally softening on these matters. As for the Patriots, tight end continues to look like a black hole in Rob Gronkowski’s absence. Stephen Anderson will be the most experienced holdover during Ben Watson’s four-game suspension, while Matt LaCosse is coming off a 24-catch campaign in Denver.
  • Patriots signed TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, formerly of the Jaguars, to a one-year contract.
ASJ was easily the best tight end left on the free-agent market. New England made a push for Jared Cook following Rob Gronkowski’s retirement, but Cook opted to stay committed to the Saints. For the Patriots, Seferian-Jenkins joins Matt LaCosse, Jacob Hollister, and Stephen Anderson at tight end. ASJ posted a miserable 11-90-1 line for the Jaguars in five games last season before landing on I.R. with a core injury.
  • The Athletic’s Connor Hughes reports the Jets are interested in a reunion with free agent Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Although he reportedly played hurt all season, Seferian-Jenkins had a dismal year in Jacksonville. He frankly wasn’t much better for the Jets in 2017. ASJ is a catch-and-fall specialist with a big radius.
  • The Athletic’s Daniel Popper reports that free agent TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins suffered two hernia tears during last training camp.
Seferian-Jenkins opted to grind through the injuries early in the season, but he ultimately landed on injured reserve in Week 6 after only piling up 11 catches for 90 yards and one touchdown. Even with the injuries, Seferian-Jenkins is considered one of the better tight end options in free agency, but that’s not saying much. Since 2017, he has averaged only 7.32 yards on his 61 receptions.
  • The Jaguars have declined their 2019 team option on Austin Seferian-Jenkins, making him a free agent.
Signed to a “two-year, $10 million” contract following his successful comeback season with the Jets in 2017, ASJ made zero impact for the Jags’ stagnant offense before landing on injured reserve with a core muscle injury in Week 6. ASJ caught 11 balls for 90 yards and one score before going down. He has averaged a minuscule 7.32 yards on 61 catches since 2017. Going on 27, ASJ will not be guaranteed a 53-man roster spot for 2019, though he will likely be on someone’s Week 1 roster.
  • Jaguars placed Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core muscle) on injured reserve.
Coach Doug Marrone said it is possible Seferian-Jenkins returns this season. ASJ has been dealing with a core-muscle injury all year, but he appeared to aggravate the injury against the Chiefs on Sunday. Niles Paul caught seven passes for 65 yards filling in for Seferian-Jenkins in the second half. He is worth a look with tight end as thin as ever.
  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins did not catch his only target in the Jaguars’ Week 5 loss to the Chiefs.
Seferian-Jenkins could not come up with the pass on a fourth-and-two target in the second quarter. That was his last involvement in the game, and he did not play many snaps if any at all in the second half. Seferian-Jenkins has been struggling with a core-muscle injury all season, and it is possible that issue flared up against Kansas City. Niles Paul, who finished with 65 yards on seven catches, would be next up at tight end.
  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) wasn’t listed on the Jaguars’ final injury report for Week 5 against the Chiefs.
Seferian-Jenkins began the week with a DNP before being upgraded to limited practice on Thursday. He closed out the week by getting in a full session, prompting the Jags to take him off their injury report. ASJ hasn’t been of much use to fantasy owners this year, though the potential for a big week does exist against a subpar Chiefs secondary.
  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught 2-of-4 passes for 24 yards in Week 4 against the Jets.
Seferian-Jenkins wasn’t much of a factor playing against his former team. He’s been an afterthought in Jacksonville’s offense this year, failing to go over 25 yards in any game. Seferian-Jenkins gets a matchup against the Chiefs in Week 5.
