The Bengals’ website suggests Armon Binns may still be the “leader in the clubhouse” for the team’s No. 2 receiver job.
Binns participated in rookie minicamp, holding his own, and he’ll compete to fend off third- and fifth-round picks Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones, respectively. If the Bengals are looking to directly replace outgoing “X” receiver Jerome Simpson, though, Jones will probably be their best bet because he runs the best routes and has the best speed. Binns is less assured of a roster spot.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
Coach Marvin Lewis revealed that his offensive coaching staff pushed to get WR Armon Binns on the field late last season.
Binns spent the majority of the season on the Bengals’ practice squad after surprisingly going undrafted out of the University of Cincinnati. While Binns is unlikely to make a substantial 2012 impact, he’s a name to stash in deep Dynasty leagues considering the dearth of established receivers in the Queen City.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
Bengals declared WR Armon Binns, S Taylor Mays, LB Dontay Moch, TE Colin Cochart, DT Nick Hayden, OG Otis Hudson, and S Robert Sands inactive for Week 17 against the Ravens.
Binns spent the season on Cincinnati’s practice squad. He was promoted for the finale, but will not play. Otherwise, the Bengals are healthy for Week 17.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
Bengals signed WR Armon Binns from the practice squad.
A local star at Cincinnati, the athletic Binns will take Andre Caldwell’s roster spot. He will likely be limited to special teams if he’s active against the Ravens.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
Bengals WR Armon Binns “caught just about everything thrown his way” in minicamp and OTAs.
Binns and Brandon Tate saw most of the action with the first-team offense opposite A.J. Green in spring practices. A coaching staff favorite, Binns has “put himself in position to make a leap this season,” according to Fox Sports Ohio. He’ll have to beat out Tate and third-rounder Mohamed Sanu in training camp.
  • FA Wide Receiver #87
Brandon Tate opened Bengals training camp as the starting receiver opposite A.J. Green.
Tate and Armon Binns are expected to take the majority of the first-team reps throughout camp. It looks like the coaches deferred to Tate’s experience edge in the initial practice. Rookie Mohamed Sanu will also have a chance to force his way into the mix.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
After visiting Bengals camp, CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco believes Armon Binns is the “early favorite” to start opposite A.J. Green.
“He might not have the speed (Jerome) Simpson had, but he at least knows where to go,” writes Prisco. Although Brandon Tate is listed first on the depth chart, he’s been sidelined by a hamstring injury for most of camp, leaving an opening for Binns. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Bengals use a rotation of Binns, Tate and rookies Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones throughout the season.
  • FA Wide Receiver #16
Andy Dalton envisions a receiver-by-committee approach at No. 2 wideout.
Brandon Tate, Armon Binns and third-round rookie Mohamed Sanu are all in the mix. “Right now, the way they’ve performed, I have no reservation whatsoever of anybody coming in there,” OC Jay Gruden said. “My play calling won’t alter one bit if Sanu, Armon or Tate is out there.” ESPN’s Jamison Hensley reiterates that Jermaine Gresham will be Dalton’s No. 2 target behind A.J. Green.
  • FA Wide Receiver #87
Bengals OC Jay Gruden expects Brandon Tate and Armon Binns to share the majority of the No. 2 receiver snaps in training camp.
A favorite has yet to emerge between the two holdovers, though it’s noteworthy that Tate and Binns are still ahead of rookie Mohamed Sanu entering camp. At this point, Sanu is undraftable in standard-size redraft leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
The Bengals’ official site says that if Armon Binns isn’t he No. 2 receiver, “then he and Brandon Tate are 2A and 2B.”
As middling talents, we wouldn’t expect anyone to gain separation in this position battle. Eventually, Mohamed Sanu and maybe Marvin Jones will get in the mix as well. Even quarterback Andy Dalton has already admitted that he expects a rotation at his No. 2 wideout spot.
