Nationals optioned RHP Gabe Klobosits, OF Yasel Antuna and LHP’s Seth Romero and Evan Lee to Triple-A Rochester, reassigned RHP’s Jackson Rutledge and Jefry Rodriguez, LHP Alberto Baldonado and INF Andrew Young to minor league spring training.
The first round of cuts from Nationals’ camp include Klobosits, who made 11 relief appearances late last season and a few prominent non-roster invitees fighting for a spot on the big-league roster in Rodriguez and Baldonado.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Nationals selected INF Andrew Young from the Diamondbacks in the MiLB Rule 5 Draft.
This minor-league phase would typically follow the standard MLB Rule 5 Draft, but we might not get one of those this year on account of the ongoing lockout between MLB and the MLB Players Association. Young, 27, was outrighted from the Diamondbacks’ 40-man roster in November after going just 19-for-91 (.209) in 58 games at the major-league level in 2021. The versatile infielder holds a career .205 batting average at baseball’s highest level.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks sent INF Andrew Young outright to Double-A Amarillo.
Young has a career .205 batting average in 70 games (138 plate appearances) at baseball’s highest level. The 27-year-old is now off the 40-man roster in Arizona.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks optioned INF Andrew Young to Triple-A Reno.
The 27-year-old was 6-for-37 in his last 15 games with a .270 slugging percentage. Arizona recalled Luis Frías in a corresponding move.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks recalled INF Andy Young from Triple-A Reno.
Young is likely to be nothing more than a short-side platoon for the remainder of the season. The 27-year-old is batting .228 at the major league level this year with six home runs over 57 at-bats but has a 1.248 OPS against southpaws.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks optioned INF Andy Young to Triple-A Reno.
Young’s move is necessitated by Ketel Marte coming off the injured list. The former St. Louis prospect will be up in some capacity before the end of the season, but not in a fantasy-relevant role.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Andy Young hit a two-run pinch-hit homer on Saturday against the Cubs.
Young came up as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and whalloped a two-run shot off Rex Brothers. The former St. Louis prospect has shown plenty of pop this year with eight homers and a .653 slugging percentage in just 41 games. He’s a player to to watch if he gets more playing time down the stretch for the lowly D-Backs.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Andrew Young went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday’s loss to the Dodgers.
Young swatted a solo home run to leadoff the eighth inning, but the dinger barely drew a reaction from the crowd, which was enjoying the summer evening while the home Dodgers rolled along to a monster lead. Young’s home run merely made it 16-1 on the scoreboard. This season, the utility infielder is hitting .233/.353/.651 with five home runs and 10 RBI in 43 MLB at-bats. There is a little power, here, but the 27-year-old Young does not warrant earnest fantasy attention at this juncture.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks recalled INF Andy Young from Triple-A Reno.
Young has been shuffling back and forth between Reno and Phoenix often. He replaces Asdrúbal Cabrera, as Cabrera is on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Young has shown offensive upside, and is a decent DFS option against left-handed pitching when he’s in the lineup.

  • MLB Second Baseman #27
Diamondbacks optioned INF Andy Young to Triple-A Reno.
Young has been enmeshed in the Diamondbacks’ endless roster churn, shuttling back-and-forth between Triple-A Reno multiple times this season. He’s held his own at the major-league level, hitting .220/.347/.585 with nine runs scored, four homers and nine RBI across 49 plate appearances. He should be back for an extended look at some point in the second half.
