Mewelde Moore II is a player. Virtually ignored by fantasy leaguers, we think Pearman has a great chance to prove more valuable than LaBrandon Toefield this season. He’ll be a factor on passing downs regardless of Fred Taylor’s health.

Chad Owens and Maurice Drew are also each vying for the role. “We’d like to have a guy with more speed, but he’s got excellent quickness, great toughness and good running back strengths,” special teams coach Pete Rodriguez said.

Pearman should make the roster, but he’s the odd man out with Maurice Drew drafted. The team plans to use Fred Taylor’s all-around game, Drew’s explosiveness, and Greg Jones’ power game in tandem this year.

Mike Peterson, Marcus Stroud, and Brian Williams are all active for Jacksonville’s defense.

He didn’t have a carry. Pearman could be a useful end of bench type player in points-per-reception leagues. The Jaguars may look to get other running backs other than Fred Taylor some carries.

Pearman is solid on passing downs and has shown nice explosion in his brief work in games. Greg Jones would probably also get some carries against the Steelers.

He’s a fine pass-catcher, so was in the game more than Greg Jones in the second half. He’s worth owning in nearly all leagues, especially for Fred Taylor owners.

“Alvin’s the backup now,’' Del Rio said. “If he wasn’t the punt returner, it might shake out a little different. It’s not a negative on anything LaBrandon [Toefield] has done. We just have a good, young player in Alvin.’'

With Fred Taylor hurt, Pearman could put up decent yardage and 5+ catches a week out of the Jacksonville backfield.

Pearman is a very interesting pick in fantasy leagues this season. With the questionable status of Fred Taylor, many feel that Pearman could be this year’s version of Mewelde Moore. Pearman looked great in minicamps but the team is high on backup running back Labrandon Toefield as well. Should Taylor miss time, Pearman will most likely get 8-10 carries a game.
