Sanchez reunites with the Nationals after a brief stint in free agency this offseason. The versatile 31-year-old infielder batted .257/.316/.314 across 38 plate appearances in the majors last year. He’ll compete for a spot on the Nationals’ Opening Day roster this spring.

The 30-year-old infielder is a career .263/.280/.331 hitter with no homers and no stolen bases in 166 plate appearances at the big league level. He can be completely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Of the 10 reassignments, the only surprise is Parra, who looked like he might’ve had a shot to break camp on the big-league roster as a reserve outfielder. Yet, the Nationals decided to go with versatile utilityman Hernan Perez instead.

The 30-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as minor league depth for the Nationals. Sanchez wound up missing the entire 2020 season due to a torn right Achilles.

It’s a technicality. Sanchez suffered a torn right Achilles a few weeks ago, but he was already optioned to the minors back in the spring and therefore wasn’t part of the major league roster at the time of the injury. He’s on the minor league injured list instead.

Sanchez suffered the Achilles injury a few weeks ago, presumably while working out at his offseason home. The 29-year-old infielder apparently won’t be a participant in MLB’s upcoming 60-game campaign.

The Nationals signed a bunch of infielders over the winter, so Sanchez seems likely to hit the waiver wire at the end of the spring. He’s hit a modest .263/.280/.331 in 166 PA as a major leaguer over the last three seasons, but he did step it up some in Triple-A last year (.316/.365/.469 in 282 PA) and he’s solid defensively throughout the infield.
