Adam Jones will officially retire as an Oriole on September 15.
That just feels right. Jones last played in the majors in 2019 as a member of the Diamondbacks before a two-year stint in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes between 2020-2021. He originally came up with the Mariners in 2006 before being dealt to Baltimore in the Erik Bedard trade, which worked out wonderfully for the Orioles, as he would go on to spend 11 seasons with the club. Jones emerged as a cornerstone member of the team while making five All-Star teams and winning a Gold Glove. He’ll finish his career with 1,939 hits, 282 home runs, 945 RBI, and a .277/.317/.454 batting line over 1,823 major league games.

Adam Jones wrote for The Players Tribune that he hopes to continue his playing career overseas in Japan.
Jones has spent the last two seasons with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball after a 14-year career in the majors that included stops with the Mariners, Orioles and Diamondbacks. The 36-year-old outfielder acknowledged that his playing career might be over, but he’d love to continue playing in Japan.

Adam Jones has agreed to a two-year contract with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says the deal will carry $8 million in total guaranteed money and also contains a club option for the 2022 season. Jones struggled to attract lucrative offers from MLB teams last winter and wound up signing a one-year, $3 million contract with the Diamondbacks in March. He slashed .260/.313/.414 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI in 137 games for Arizona. Now it’s off to Japan.

Asked about the possibility of playing in Japan, Adam Jones said on MLB Network on Tuesday that he’s keeping his options “open.”
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Monday that Jones was in talks on a multi-year deal with the Orix Buffaloes. “I have a unique opportunity to do something different,” explained Jones. I have a unique opportunity to take control of my own career.” The 34-year-old added that it’s not an easy decision for him, but he had a hard enough time on the free agent market last winter that it’s an idea worth exploring.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Adam Jones is in talks on a multi-year deal with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan.
Rosenthal adds that a deal could come together this week. The 34-year-old Jones had difficulty attracting much interest last winter and will probably have an even harder time this winter after batting just .260/.313/.414 with 16 homers over 137 games with the Diamondbacks in 2019. A move to Japan is unexpected for a player of his stature, but it could be a great situation for him.

Abraham Almonte has left Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals with an undisclosed injury.
Almonte picked up the injury while attempting to field a hit that ended up turning into a Jose Martinez triple. Adam Jones has taken over for Almonte in right field. We should know more on his status soon.

Adam Jones went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Padres on Sunday.
Jones absolutely walloped a Garrett Richards fastball in the second inning, smacking it off the scoreboard in left field at Petco Park. The homer was Jones’ 16th of the year, and his first this month. The 34-year-old is on the downslope of his career but still has a few bullets left, hitting .263/.312/.422 with those 16 homers, 65 RBI and 65 runs scored in 132 games. He’ll be a free agent this winter.

Adam Jones is not starting against the Reds on Saturday.
The Diamondbacks have given their 34-year-old outfielder regular rest this year and that appears to be the case today. Jarrod Dyson will play right field and Josh Rojas will start in left. Jones has a .268 batting average with 15 home runs and 61 RBI in 124 games. He is no longer the five-category fantasy stud he once was but he can still chip in for his owners on occasion.

Adam Jones picked up a pinch-hit homer on Monday in the Diamondbacks’ 6-4 victory over the Giants.
Jones came off the bench and extended the Diamondbacks’ lead to 6-2 with a solo shot off of Shaun Anderson. The outfielder now has 15 homers and 58 RBI in his first -- and possibly final -- season with the Diamondbacks, and his slash improves to .269/.317/.436. It was recently announced that Jones will not be a full-time player for Arizona down the stretch, but when he is in the lineup, he could be a DFS option; assuming the price is relatively low.

Adam Jones knocked a two-run triple and scored a run in Sunday’s win over the Giants.
Jones got the D’backs on the board in the first inning when he lined a low fastball from Madison Bumgarner to center field that went under a diving Kevin Pillar’s glove and rolled to the warning track. He came around to score on an RBI single by Josh Rojas. The triple was the first of the year for the 34-year-old, giving him 56 RBI and 60 runs scored. Jones is hitting .271/.318/.434 in 113 games this year.
