Aaron Altherr has re-signed with the NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Altherr slugged 31 home runs and stole 22 bases for the Dinos in 2020 and the club is giving him $1.1 million (with $100,000 more available in incentives) to stick around. It’s not clear how much, if any, interest Altherr received from major league teams, but they weren’t likely to give him the kind of paycheck the Dinos were.

  • INT Outfield #23
Aaron Altherr has signed on to play with the NC Dinos of the Korean League next season.
Altherr was great for the Phillies in 2017, hitting .272/.340/.517 in 372 at-bats, but he just hadn’t had any luck since. After hitting .181/.295/.333 in 243 at-bats for the Phillies in 2018, he went just 5-for-61 for three teams last season. Asia definitely seems like the right move for him at this point, and if he proves successful, he could find his way back to MLB in a couple of years.
  • INT Outfield #23
Mets designated OF Aaron Altherr for assignment.
He gets let go to make room for Jeff McNeil on the active roster. Altherr has played sparingly for the Mets, Giants and Phillies this year. He has a .082 batting average with one homer in 49 games.
  • LAA 3rd Baseman #22
J.D. Davis (calf) remained out of the Mets’ lineup Sunday.
Davis will miss his second straight start with right calf tightness. He is available off the bench. Aaron Altherr is again in left field.
  • INT Outfield #23
Mets purchased the contract of OF Aaron Altherr from Triple-A Syracuse.
Altherr will be taking the place of the injured Dominic Smith on the Mets’ roster. The 28-year-old has slashed a woeful .050/.095/.150 with one homer, two RBI and a 16/2 K/BB ratio in 42 plate appearances between the Mets, Giants and Phillies this season.
  • INT Outfield #23
Mets sent OF Aaron Altherr outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Altherr was designated for assignment by the Mets last week -- the third different time he had been DFA’d by a team since the beginning of May -- and ultimately passed through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old outfielder has gone 2-for-40 (.050) this season at the MLB level while suiting up for the Phillies, Giants, and Mets.

  • NYY 1st Baseman #22
Dominic Smith was scratched from the Mets’ lineup Sunday with a sore right thumb.
The club says that Smith will be available off the bench, so it doesn’t sound like a big deal. The Mets are off on Monday and Smith would seem like a good bet to be back in the lineup Tuesday. Aaron Altherr has replaced Smith in Sunday’s lineup.
  • INT Outfield #23
In his first at-bat with the Mets, Aaron Altherr smacked a pinch-hit solo homer against the Tigers on Friday.
The homer gave the Mets the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, though the Tigers would later come back and win the game. Altherr came into Friday’s action with just one hit — a double — in 30 at-bats this season between the Phillies and Giants. It’s unclear how much of a role he’ll play with his new team or how long he’ll stick around, but the Mets could use the depth with multiple outfielders sidelined. Remember that Altherr had an .856 OPS in 2017, so he’s a worthy flier.
  • INT Outfield #23
Mets claimed OF Aaron Altherr off waivers from the Giants.
The Mets have an entire starting outfield on the injured list, so Altherr could get a good amount of playing time over the next week or so. He was designated for assignment by San Francisco on Sunday, after making just one plate appearance there. The Phillies waived him on May 4.
