Lions signed fourth-round CB A.J. Davis to a three-year contract.
Like his brother Vernon, speedy A.J. has a ton of upside but is much more raw. He isn’t a typical Tampa 2 corner at 5-10/190. Davis will be asked to gun on kickoffs as a rookie, and possibly push for a sub-package CB job in 2008.
  • PIT Defensive Back
Lions coach Rod Marinelli announced Wednesday that cornerback Fernando Bryant and guard Damien Woody recently agreed to redo their contracts.
It appears Woody will remain a Lion this season. Bryant is penciled in to start opposite Stanley Wilson with A.J. Davis and Travis Fisher also in the mix.
  • FA Defensive Back
Lions released fourth-round pick CB A.J. Davis.
Davis has a ton of upside, but is very raw. He makes a great candidate for the practice squad.
  • FA Defensive Back
    Texans waived/injured A.J. Davis.
They kept rookies Brice McCain and Glover Quin instead.
  • CLE Tight End
Browns released TEs Brad Cieslak and Kolomana Kapanui, WRs Lance Leggett and Steve Sanders, CBs A.J. Davis and Jereme Perry, S Travis Key and Brandon Mitchell, LBs Chase Ortiz and David McMillan, OT James Lee, and K Jason Reda.
Formerly of the Bills, Cieslak will try to catch on as a third tight end elsewhere.
  • PIT Wide Receiver
Lions WR Eddie Drummond is in danger of not making the team.
Drummond did a decent job on kick returns last year but hasn’t brought one to the house since 2004 and has just two catches since 2002. Kevin Kasper, rookie A.J. Davis, and Shaun McDonald are candidates to take return duties.
