SF Tight End #85

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner expects George Kittle (hamstring) to return for Week 4 against the Patriots.

Speaking Thursday, Kittle said he is “very excited to play football” and “feeling fantastic.” The 49ers and coach Kyle Shanahan partake in as much injury report shenanigans as anyone, but Kittle has now practiced back-to-back days. It seems like his Week 3 absence was more precautionary than anything else after he tightened up late in the week. If he does indeed go against the Pats, there is a threat he’s on a snap count in a game that frankly should not be competitive.
Trey McBride

ARI Tight End #85

Trey McBride (concussion) remained “DNP” for Thursday’s practice.

Even a limited Friday practice would put McBride on track to be cleared, but it’s not looking likely at this point. McBride’s absence would funnel ever more looks Marvin Harrison’s way and likely trickle down to Greg Dortch and Michael Wilson, as well. No. 2 TE Elijah Higgins wouldn’t be worth a fantasy stream because the 2023 sixth-rounder’s résumé is just so thin.
Kenneth Walker III

SEA Running Back #9

Kenneth Walker (oblique) returned to Seahawks practice Thursday.

We don’t yet know Walker’s official status, but it’s his first practice of any kind since going down late in the Seahawks’ Week 1 victory over the Broncos. Especially with the Seahawks getting an extra day to prep for Monday Night Football, it bodes well for Walker’s Week 4 return, but Pete Carroll’s mysterious injury report ways seem to have transferred to Mike Macdonald. We aren’t taking anything for granted yet. With Zach Charbonnet ineffective during Walker’s absence, we would expect an immediate Walker return to every-down status.
Davante Adams

LV Wide Receiver #17

Davante Adams was added to the Raiders’ Thursday injury report with a hamstring issue, getting in a limited session.

Oh dear. It leaves Adams genuinely questionable for Sunday’s projected slog with the Browns, though it’s possible the Raiders are merely exercising an abundance of caution with a 31-year-old veteran. Friday, obviously, will tell the tale. Adams’ absence would mean more “easy” targets for Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers and potentially more down-field looks for Week 3 star Tre Tucker.
Nico Collins

HOU Wide Receiver #12

Nico Collins was added to Thursday’s injury report with a hamstring issue, getting in a “limited” session.

Uh oh. This certainly suggests an in-practice injury, though perhaps Collins is dealing with some benign “soreness.” Either way, it’s now of the utmost interest heading into Friday’s practice. Another “limited” session would probably keep Collins on track to play against the Jaguars. A DNP, on the other hand, would be quite ominous. Have a back-up plan ready, ideally somewhere other than Houston. If you desperately need a Texans option, Robert Woods and Xavier Hutchinson are the next men up with Tank Dell likely to miss Week 4.
Justin Herbert

LAC Quarterback #10

Justin Herbert (ankle) was not spotted at Thursday’s practice.

Herbert appears to be a DNP for the second consecutive day, putting his Week 4 status firmly in doubt. There’s a chance he could still log a practice on Friday, but with the Chargers coming up on a Week 5 bye, two weeks away could be more than enough time for him to bounce back from his injury. If Herbert doesn’t play, Taylor Heinicke would get the nod for the divisional matchup against the Chiefs.
Bijan Robinson

ATL Running Back #7

Bijan Robinson (shoulder) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

Being a late addition to the injury report is never a good sign, but we’ll see where things go from here before panicking. Robinson was listed as limited in Thursday’s practice, which is far more optimistic than an outright DNP. If he’s unable to go in Week 4 against the Saints, then it’s safe to assume Tyler Allgeier would be in for a busy week. Robinson’s status will be one to watch come Friday.
Bucky Irving

TB Running Back #7

Bucky Irving (hamstring) said he’ll play in Week 4 against the Eagles.

Irving was downgraded on Thursday and did not practice while dealing with a hamstring issue he picked up in Week 3 against the Broncos. Even if Irving plays in Week 4, he could be limited behind lead back Rachaad White. If Irving is out, White will see a big workload against a porous Philadelphia rush defense.
Mike Williams

NYJ Wide Receiver #18

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports the Jets will “work Mike Williams into the playbook more and more in the next couple of weeks.”

The team has increased Williams workload in each of the past two games, including last Thursday aganist the Patriots, when Williams caught three of his four targets for 34 yards. Operating almost exclusively on the boundary, Williams nearly came down with a short touchdown against New England. He could be in for a busy game in Week 4 against the Broncos since Garrett Wilson will presumably see shadow coverage from shutdown CB Patrick Surtain II.
Christian McCaffrey

SF Running Back #23

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes it’s a “long shot” for Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) to return by Week 6.

McCaffrey flew to Germany this week to seek medical care for his lingering calf and Achilles injury after the Niners put him on IR on September 14. While McCaffrey could technically return to action by Week 6, Fowler sees that as unlikely. NFL Network reported last week that CMC could be sidelined until around midseason. It looks like Jordan Mason will operate as the 49ers’ lead back for at least the next month or two. It’s anyone’s guess as to what kind of workload McCaffrey, 28, will see once he returns to the field.
