  • SF Running Back #24
Mason has been invisible as a pass catcher while working as the Niners’ lead back over the past five weeks with Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) sidelined. Mason has run a pass route on about 60 percent of the team’s drop backs and has seen a target on just 7 percent of his routes. “Some running backs ... have quickly created that connection [with the quarterback],” Barrows said. “I’d say Mason is building that connection.” Unless or until Mason is more involved in the pass game, he’ll be game script sensitive.
  • PIT Quarterback #3
Schefter said on ESPN’s “Get Up” that head coach Mike Tomlin has not “crowned” Justin Fields as the team’s full-time starter despite a solid start to the season. Schefter suggested Tomlin could make the quarterback switch if the Steelers — who have dropped two straight games — lose to the miserable Raiders in Week 6. Wilson, Schefter said, is “within an arm’s length” of Fields as the Steelers’ starter. A poor outing for Fields, who completed just 55 percent of his throws last week against Dallas, and Wilson could end up under center for Pittsburgh.
  • LAC Quarterback #10
Herbert played through a high-ankle sprain in Week 4 with disastrous results. He struggled to move around the pocket and threw for 179 yards plus one touchdown en route to a 10-point performance from the entire offense. LA lost to the Chiefs by seven points. The Chargers’ Week 5 bye should help Herbert get back on his feet for their upcoming matchup with Denver. LA’s run-heavy approach will keep him in the QB2 ranks.
  • IND Wide Receiver #11
Pittman was added to the injury report as a DNP on Wednesday. He dealt with a back injury earlier in the season but it never cost him any games. It’s a shocking development and one of a slew of injuries hitting the Colts’ offense. Josh Downs, who would be in line to take over No. 1 receiver duties in Pittman’s absence, missed Wednesday’s practice with a toe injury. He will leap into the WR2 ranks if healthy. Adonai Mitchell will re-enter the three-receiver rotation going forward while Alec Pierce’s contributions as a deep threat will be even more valuable in the coming weeks.
  • NO Quarterback #18
Derek Carr is expected to miss multiple weeks with a tear in his oblique. Jake Haener was also in the running to take over at quarterback, but the Saints can use Carr’s absence to see what they have in the rookie. Rattler was one of the biggest fallers of the 2024 NFL Draft, tumbling into the fifth round after many analysts believed he could go on the second day. He should be added in all Superflex leagues, though redraft managers don’t need to consider him in his first career start.
  • WAS Running Back #8
Robinson suffered the knee injury in the first half of Washington’s Week 5 win over the Browns. He scored twice in the first two quarters but did not play in the second half. Head coach Dan Quinn told reporters that his absence from the lineup in the second half was a “coaching decision.” The Commanders had a sizable lead at halftime, giving them some room to rest a banged-up player. Robinson still has two days to get back on the practice field this week. If he can’t suit up, Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols will split the Washington backfield.
  • TEN Quarterback #8
Levis went down early in the Titans’ Week 4 win over the Dolphins with an injured right shoulder and did not return. He got Week 5 off with Tennessee on bye and appears to be good to go for his upcoming game versus the Colts. Levis has topped 200 yards once in four appearances this year and may still be limited by the shoulder injury even if active. He is not on the fantasy radar outside of Superflex leagues heading into Week 6.
  • CIN Running Back #31
Moss suffered the ankle injury in Week 5. Ravens defender Odafe Oweh dove to tackle Moss and landed hard on the running back’s ankle. Moss may be dealing with a dreaded high-ankle sprain. If he misses any time, Chase Brown would take over the starting job, propelling the explosive runner to an RB2 ranking for Week 6 versus the Giants.
  • SF Tight End #85
Kittle played through the rib injury last week and caught eight passes for 64 yards in a score. He was listed as questionable for that game and was removed from the injury report entirely this time around, suggesting he is in a better place than he was last week. Kittle remains a top-five fantasy option in the nightmare that is tight end this year.
  • IND Running Back #27
Sermon is a surprise addition to the injury report as he played through Week 5 seemingly without any issues. He ran 10 times for 38 yards and a touchdown while adding six receptions for 25 yards through the air. Jonathan Taylor looks unlikely to play this week, putting Sermon in line for another strong workload if he can suit up. Tyler Goodson would be the next man up if both Indy backs are ruled out.
