ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Chiefs WR Rashee Rice’s knee injury is not as bad as initially thought.

The reports from Schefter somewhat contradict reports from Ian Rapoport, the latter of whom reported the Rice met with Dr. Dan Cooper today and it was revealed that he had torn his LCL. Schefter indicated that the star wide receiver would undergo further testing on Tuesday under anesthesia to fully diagnose the damage to the knee. While “not as bad as initially thought” and “confirmed torn LCL” are two very different things, all signs continue to point to a lost season for Rice. That said, if he did tear only the LCL, the recovery window would be two to three months faster than if he also damaged other ligaments. We’ll likely need to hear from the team before any conclusive statements can be made, which could come a early as Tuesday.
Taysom Hill

NO Tight End #7

Saints TE Taysom Hill (ribs) is inactive for Monday Night Football against the Chiefs in Week 5.

Hill had previously been ruled out earlier in the week but it is worth reiterating considering the stark splits from the New Orleans offense with Hill on and off the field. The team has scored 13 touchdowns with Hill on the field versus just three with him off through four weeks. Also inactive for the Saints are LB Willie Gay Jr., QB Spencer Rattler, LB Pete Werner, OL Cesar Ruiz, DT Kristian Boyd, and DE Payton Turner.
Joe Mixon

HOU Running Back #28

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said the team is “not sure” if Joe Mixon (ankle) will be available against the Patriots in Week 6 and said he’s “still trying to figure that out.”

He continued to call Mixon “week to week,” but said the back was “definitely improving.” The Texans have been claiming Mixon as week-to-week for a solid month now. Practice participation is the guiding light and Mixon didn’t practice at all next week. We’d wait until we see Mixon practice two consecutive days before getting our hopes up that he’ll return again. Dare Ogunbowale and Cam Akers split the reps in Week 5 for the Texans, with Dameon Pierce also a possibility to get some reps in Week 6 if he can shake a hamstring injury.
Nico Collins

HOU Wide Receiver #12

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Nico Collins (hamstring) is “week to week.”

News you don’t necessarily love to read after Adam Schefter reported the Texans consider Collins “day-to-day” earlier this morning. Practice participation for Collins will be telling this week, but if the Texans were going to leave Collins on the shelf for any game coming up, it would make sense that it’d be against the Patriots. Collins left Week 5’s game against the Bills with the hamstring and did not return, finishing with a 2/78/1 line. Ryans later added that “It takes a couple of weeks for a hamstring.”
A.J. Brown

PHI Wide Receiver #11

James Palmer reports the Eagles expect A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) to play in Philadelphia’s Week 6 game against the Browns.

The practice participation should still be key this week in figuring out how injured Brown remains, but to be talking about the comeback on Monday is a great sign for his chances of suiting up. The Eagles will face a tough test from a Browns pass defense that would be much more heralded had Deshaun Watson not captured their season, though it’s possible that star CB Denzel Ward misses the game with a hamstring injury.
Christian McCaffrey

SF Running Back #23

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) won’t play in Week 6 against the Seahawks.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise after it was reported a few weeks ago that a November return is likely the earliest we would see McCaffrey back. Regardless, Shanahan will likely field questions on his RB1’s health until he returns, but we wouldn’t expect to see him for at least a few more weeks. Until then, Jordan Mason will continue handling the majority of the 49ers’ backfield touches, with Isaac Guerendo and Deebo Samuel also earning a few touches per game.
Davante Adams

LV Wide Receiver #17

Bleacher Reports’ Jordan Schultz reports, “The Raiders’ preference as an organization is to get a Davante Adams trade done ‘sooner rather than later.’”

While the Raiders hope to work out an Adams trade soon, Schultz also notes that they “aren’t going to do just any deal” and prefer not to take on any remaining money on Adams’ current contract. The remaining money on Adams’ contract could hold up a potential trade for some teams — specifically the Saints, who have spent the last several years navigating suboptimal cap situations. We’ll see what materializes in the coming days, but it feels like a trade could be coming any day, now.
Dax Hill

CIN Cornerback #23

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Bengals fear CB Dax Hill suffered a torn ACL in Week 5’s loss to the Ravens.

Hill exited Sunday’s game against the Ravens and did not return to the field. The third-year corner had his leg twisted up while attempting to make a cut and was ruled out shortly after leaving the field. The team will take a closer look to confirm, but this would be a brutal loss for a secondary that’s allowed 350-plus passing yards in each of its last three games.
Drake Maye

NE Quarterback #10

ESPN’s Mike Reiss says Patriots coach Jerod Mayo “seems to strongly be considering switch to Drake Maye” after a “notable shift” in his answers regarding QB on Monday.

It’s worth noting that this is Reiss’ opinion based on his experience of having sat through many press conferences with Mayo. Reiss notes, “Mayo said last week the way the team won its only game was ‘unsustainable’,” which was a Week 1 one over the Bengals in which Jacoby Brissett threw for 121 scoreless yards. The Patriots are amongst the worst passing teams in the league. Brissett has thrown for 696 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception this season while completing only 58.5 percent of his passes. Playing behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines isn’t doing him any added favors, but the younger, more athletic Maye could help extend plays and give the Patriots more of a vertical passing attack. We’ll see how things unfold throughout the week, but Brissett’s time as the team’s start appears to be drawing to a close.
Rashee Rice

KC Wide Receiver #4

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs remain hopeful that Rashee Rice (knee) can return this season, and miss only 6-8 weeks.

Rice will undergo a procedure on Monday and hope to get a “final determination of Rice’s status” shortly after. Schefter states, “Nothing will be determined early next week at the earliest.” The Chiefs are clearly trying to explore all options with their star receiver after he suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 4’s win over the Chargers. He will undoubtedly miss an extended period of time, but even an eight week absence would put Rice on track to return some time around late-November/early-December.
