The Cowboys are late to the head coaching cycle after waiting over a week to announce that Mike McCarthy would not return to the team. Frazier served as the Vikings’ head coach from 2011-2013 but has bounced around the league since 2014 while serving in a number of capacities. His longest stint was with the Bills (2017-2022), where he served as their defensive coordinator before adding assistant head coach to his job description in 2020. A well-renowned defensive mind, Frazier is one of several candidates who are expected to speak with the Cowboys in the coming days as they begin to build out their coaching search.
  • BAL Offensive Coordinator
Monken’s two years with the Ravens have gone about as well as one could hope for. The long-time offensive coordinator is on the verge of leading his quarterback to his second MVP in as many seasons and has a divisional-round matchup against the Bills on tap this weekend. Monken’s pass attacks are well-respected around the league, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to see two teams with young signal callers vying for his services. Monken’s only experience as a head coach was with the University of Southern Mississippi (2013-2015). He went 13-26 during his three seasons with the team but went 9-5 in his final season after inheriting a team that had gone 0-12 in 2012.
  • LAR Tight End #89
Higbee is already practicing after a hospital visit earlier this week, putting him on track to play barring setbacks. Higbee finished second on the team in targets (five) and receptions (five) and led the team in receiving yards (58) last week. His expected presence is huge for the Rams’ upset odds.
  • HOU Running Back #28
Details on the injury have not yet been released but this is a story to follow closely. Popping up on the injury report with a mid-week Limited Participant status suggests Mixon suffered this injury in Wednesday’s practice. He notably missed Weeks 3-5 due to an ankle injury but whether this can be considered an aggravation remains unknown. Mixon will likely play through the pain but would be at risk for an in-game setback.
  • DET Running Back #5
Montgomery’s continued participation suggests he remains setback-free. He told reporters earlier today that he is “ready to go” and his practice status confirms it. It is likely that the Lions continue to lean on Jahmyr Gibbs but Montgomery should be able to at least chip in, in lower-stakes situations.
  • PHI Wide Receiver #11
The Eagles have limited Brown’s practice and in-game participation whenever possible as he manages an ongoing knee issue. Unfortunately, the plan has yet to pay dividends; Brown has caught just 4-of-8 targets for 46 yards in his last two games and was given the week off in Week 18. The Eagles will need Brown to contribute against the Rams this week if they hope to keep pace with the Rams’ potent offense. The Eagles later confirmed Brown did not practice at all on Wednesday.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #4
Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters on Monday the Ravens were in “we’ll see mode” with Flowers. While an early-week DNP doesn’t rule him out, he does appear to be less than a 50-50 bet to play this week. Harbaugh did note that Flowers isn’t a player who needs to practice before suiting up. It remains a waiting game for now. If he can’t go, Rashod Bateman will set in as the team’s No. 1 receiver with Mark Andrews as the top overall target.
  • DET Offensive Coordinator
NFL Network reported last week that the Raiders have become “enamored” of Johnson, who has turned the Jared Goff-led Lions into one of the most efficient offenses in the NFL over the past couple years. Fox Sports announcer Tom Brady, who is also part owner of the Raiders, has reportedly been deeply involved in the Raiders’ head coaching search after Vegas parted ways with Antonio Pierce after a disappointing 2024 season. Johnson has been careful with his head coaching opportunities, so it’s far from a sure thing he’ll take the Vegas job.
  • FA Head Coach
Rapoport said the Cowboys are expected to request an interview with Saleh, 45, who was fired by the Jets in October after a rocky start to the year. He went 20-36 with the Jets over three-plus seasons and has drawn interest from a number of teams over the past couple weeks. The Niners have talked to Saleh about once again becoming the team’s defensive coordinator, and ESPN reported this week that Saleh is a “sleeper” for the Jacksonville head coaching job. The Raiders have also talked to Saleh about their head coach vacancy. He could have his choice of head coaching opportunities over the next week or so.
  • DET Running Back #5
Montgomery practiced in full Tuesday after missing two games with an MCL injury. “It’s just refreshing kind of to be back in the position where I can help the team,” Montgomery told reporters Tuesday. “I wouldn’t be out there if I wasn’t ready.” If Montgomery suits up against Washington, The Detroit Free Press’ Rainer Sabin said it remains “unclear” how much he will play in his return to action. Jahmyr Gibbs should remain the Lions’ lead back in a matchup against a soft Commanders rush defense that should have a tough time containing Detroit’s league-best rushing attack.
