  • SF Running Back #23
Shanahan said McCaffrey dealt with similar issues last January during the team’s run to the Super Bowl. If Week 1 had been a postseason game, Shanahan said, CMC would have suited up. Look for the Niners to exercise extreme caution with McCaffrey in the coming weeks, riding Jordan Mason as the lead back until McCaffrey is ready to return to action. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Monday night that CMC has a “real chance” of sitting in Week 2 against Minnesota. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said McCaffrey “feels like a long shot” for Week 2.
  • MIA Running Back #28
Achane was an impactful rusher and route-runner in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, but came away banged-up. He has now been listed as a non-participant for the second straight day due to an ankle injury, just ahead of the Dolphins’ Week 2 Thursday matchup against the Bills. Raheem Mostert (chest) was also held out of practice. Rookie RB Jaylen Wright is next man up, but told Dolphins beat reporter David Furones that he will “still expect them to play.” Wednesday will paint a clearer picture of how ready Achane and Mostert will be to play on a short turnaround. In case they do not go, Wright has RB2 upside while Jeff Wilson will see some touches as well.
  • PIT Quarterback #2
Tomlin also told reporters the team’s depth chart is unchanged, meaning Russell Wilson is still the starter when healthy. However, opening by saying the team is preparing for Fields suggests Wilson will miss Week 2 as well. He was forced to miss Week 1 with a lingering calf issue, giving Fields the start. Fields didn’t get a touchdown on the board versus Atlanta but did lead six drives that ended in field goals. Those 18 points were enough to topple the hapless Falcons. He also ran 14 times for 57 yards. Fields will be a high-end QB2 for his Week 2 matchup with the Broncos.
  • SF Running Back #23
Schefter said on Monday Night Countdown that McCaffrey is dealing with a calf and an Achilles issue that could keep him sidelined for Week 2. CMC was a last-second scratch Monday night against the Jets, leaving Jordan Mason to run roughshod over New York’s defense to the tune of 147 yards and a touchdown. It appears McCaffrey’s injury is far more serious than first thought. Mason will be a top-12 running back option until CMC can return.
  • SF Wide Receiver #1
Samuel was clearly the focal point of the offense in the first half before the team rode former undrafted free agent running back Jordan Mason to a comfortable victory. His nine targets and eight carries combined for 17 total opportunities on a night no other pass-catcher saw more than five targets. Samuel will remain an integral piece of the offense moving forward, particularly in games played without Christian McCaffrey. Start Samuel with confidence for the remainder of the season.
  • SF Running Back #24
Mason was largely bottled up in the first quarter before erupting the rest of the way, going into the half with almost 90 yards on the ground alone. He would continue to be the key cog for the offense in the second half as the 49ers pulled away from the Jets. It’s not difficult to look good in a Kyle Shanahan offense, but Mason indeed looked competent with the opportunity. He is sure to be a priority add off waivers heading into Week 2 considering Christian McCaffrey’s calf and Achilles issues remain a hinderance.
  • SF Quarterback #13
Purdy simply wasn’t required to do much after Mason got going, with the former undrafted free agent running back erupting for 147 yards and a score on the ground on a night the 49ers held the football for almost 39 minutes. But the team got the comfortable victory and scored more than 30 points yet again, something that has become commonplace with Purdy under center. Both touchdowns scored by the team came on the ground, one each to Mason and Deebo Samuel, while kicker Jake Moody went a perfect 6-for-6 on field goal attempts to propel the team to victory. The 49ers hit the road to face the Vikings in Minnesota in Week 2.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #5
Wilson understandably drew alpha coverage by a stingy 49ers’ secondary, struggling to shake free in all areas of his route tree. Even so, the 10 targets on just 21 Aaron Rodgers pass attempts handily led the team on a night the team managed to hold the football for under 22 minutes. Wilson only saw one additional target from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor on the team’s final possession of the game. Better fantasy performances are sure to lie ahead for one of the league’s most talented pass-catchers.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall did most of the heavy lifting for an offense that managed under 22 minutes of possession against the 49ers, playing every offensive snap with Rodgers in the game before giving way to rookie Braelon Allen once Tyrod Taylor took over under center. He found the sledding tough against a good 49ers defensive line but the volume and heavy snap rate left fantasy managers feeling good about the early first round draft capital invested in the talented youngster. To that end, Hall remains one of the handful of backs to serve in a true workhorse role and should have better fantasy days ahead. Furthermore, the pass game usage and red zone role keep Hall in elite company, even in less than ideal matchups. Up next for Hall and the Jets is a road meeting with a struggling Titans team in Week 2.
  • NYJ Quarterback #8
Rodgers looked fully recovered from the torn Achilles suffered after just three offensive plays on Monday Night Football a year ago, appearing mobile in the pocket with solid bounce off the affected leg. Even so, the Jets struggled as a team against a 49ers defense that had their number the entire evening. They ran just 40 offensive plays with Rodgers under center before he gave way to Tyrod Taylor for the final possession of the game with under four minutes to play. In fact, the Jets held the football for only 21:20 seconds in total and that includes the almost four minutes of possession on the final drive with Taylor under center. Rodgers locked onto his top options, targeting Garrett Wilson 11 times and Breece Hall six times before leaving the contest, a concentration that could hold true moving forward - or at least until Mike Williams begins playing a full allotment of snaps. To that end, Williams played just four offensive snaps in the first half and was used sparingly with Rodgers in the third and fourth frames, paving the way for Allen Lazard to erupt for a 6-89-2 line. The Jets will look to regroup before traveling to Tennessee to face a much more forgiving opponent in the Titans in Week 2.
