He played 36 minutes in Portland, which may be a clear sign that he won’t play in Friday’s game against the Kings. If Murphy sits, Yves Missi (six points, seven rebounds and one blocked shot) is likely to return to the starting five.

The Pelicans aren’t playing for a postseason spot, but these late-season games are highly valuable to young players like Fears. The rookie guard had an excellent night in Portland, recording a complete stat line in 26 minutes on the court. Fears still has work to do, especially defensively, but there’s a clear willingness to compete on that end of the floor. On Thursday, his efforts were rewarded with two steals and two blocks. New Orleans still has two more games in Week 23, starting with the Kings on Friday.
