Brandon Miller returned to the lineup on Friday and finished with 12 points (5-of-14 FGs), three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in a 111-86 win over the Raptors.

It was only a two-game absence for Miller, but it was good to see him back on the floor since he has already missed so much time this season after missing most of last season. It wasn’t a spectacular first game back, but he was able to play 30 minutes in a blowout win over the Raptors. LaMelo Ball injured his ankle, and if he remains out, Miller should see a bump in usage in the coming weeks.
Tidjane Salaün

Tidjane Salaün led the Hornets on Friday with 21 points (6-of-8 FGs), three rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and five three-pointers against the Raptors.

Salaün spent most of November in the G League but returned to the Hornets for the last three games. During that stretch, he has averaged 14.7 points and 3.0 three-pointers per game. It’s an incredible hot stretch for Salaün, which is great to see after many have already labeled the 20-year-old a bust. He’s worth keeping an eye on, even if he isn’t worth rostering in standard leagues at this point.

Ryan Kalkbrenner started on Friday and contributed 12 points (5-of-6 FGs, 2-of-5 FTs), six rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks against the Raptors.

Against the Knicks on Wednesday, Hornets coach Charles Lee made the switch to bump Kalkbrenner to the bench and start Moussa Diabaté. That only lasted one game and was likely to have a better matchup against Karl-Anthony Towns. Kalkbrenner returned to the starting lineup for this game and played 26 minutes while Diabaté logged 16 minutes. Kalkbrenner should start most of Charlotte’s games for the rest of the season.

LaMelo Ball (ankle) will not return to Friday’s game against the Raptors.

LaMelo just can’t seem to keep his ankles healthy. He dealt with a right ankle injury in November, and now it’s the left ankle that will keep him sidelined for at least the remainder of this game. Hopefully it won’t keep him sidelined long, but both KJ Simpson and Sion James should be in line for more minutes with Ball unavailable.

LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges and Ryan Kalkbrenner will start against the Raptors on Friday.

Miller’s return will unsurprisingly push Sion James back to the bench. Also, after a one-game swap, Moussa Diabaté will head back to the bench, with Kalkbrenner returning to the starting lineup, though both bigs will continue to split the minutes at center.

Mann is set to miss his third consecutive game with right knee soreness. Liam McNeeley and KJ Simpson are candidates for extra minutes with Mann out against the Raptors on Friday.

Miller was upgraded to probable earlier in the day after initially being listed as questionable. Now, he’s been cleared to suit up. His return should push Sion James back to the bench.

Ball has been managing a wrist injury in his non-shooting arm, but it hasn’t forced him to miss any games. He played through it on Wednesday and scored 34 points, so he should be fine for this game.

Ryan Kalkbrenner (ankle) is available to play on Friday against the Raptors.

The rookie center was upgraded from questionable to available ahead of Friday’s contest against the Raptors. He has started 19 of the 20 games he’s appeared in, but came off the bench in his most recent appearance. He’s averaging 9.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game so far and should see similar production regardless of whether he comes off the bench or starts.
Tre Mann

Tre Mann (knee) is now doubtful for Friday’s game against the Raptors.

Mann has missed the last two games with right knee soreness. Given that he was downgraded to doubtful just hours before Friday’s game against the Raptors, that absence could extend to three games. Liam McNeeley and KJ Simpson could see extra minutes if Mann is ultimately ruled out.
