J.D. Martinez was scratched from the Boston Red Sox's spring training lineup Wednesday, and we now know why.

The Red Sox slugger is dealing with back tightness and won't play in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Minnesota Twins at JetBlue Park, according to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey and other reporters on the scene.

Martinez originally was slated to bat fourth and play left field, but Bryce Brentz will take his place in the lineup and bat ninth.

Martinez is just 1-for-16 so far this spring with a run scored.

Here's Boston's new lineup behind right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who will make his spring training debut:

Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
Mookie Betts, RF
Mitch Moreland, 1B
Xander Bogaerts, SS
Steve Pearce, DH
Eduardo Núñez, 3B
Brock Holt, 2B
Blake Swihart, C
Bryce Brentz, LF
